India vs Sri Lanka in ODIs: Matches For A Life Time Memories

India had played Sri Lanka on June 8, 2017. This was India’s second match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Over the past 15 years, both countries have played in a lot of one-day internationals. There was a time when they played one-day international series against each other almost every year. That’s why it’s exciting to play this one-day international after such a long break.

As per today match highlights, since Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996, they have dominated One-Day International (ODI) cricket throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s. Before Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid joined the team, India’s batting lineup wasn’t very good, which made it hard for the team to do well. Still, India has recently had a lot of power over Sri Lanka. This is especially important when you consider that the island nation lost its famous Murali and Vaas in 2011 and 2010, as well as Sangakkara and Jayawardene in 2015.

  •  2003 World Cup, India, And Sri Lanka Played A Game At The Wanderers Stadium –

After a bad start in which Australia knocked them out of the group stages, India went on to have an amazing run in the World Cup that year. In the Super Sixes round, India played Sri Lanka at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. When Sri Lanka chose to bowl first, India immediately wished they had chosen to bat first.

Sachin Tendulkar was the clear leader of the team. He scored a great 97, so there was no question about that. Sehwag’s 66 runs and Sachin’s 156 runs in 27 overs helped India score a lot of runs. Even so, Sri Lanka was able to get wickets in the last few overs, and India could only score 292 runs in the 50 overs they had.

  • Rajkot, 2009. India vs. Sri Lanka –

Sri Lanka decided to let India bat first on the flat ground at Rajkot, which led to their team getting beaten up badly. India was able to get 153 runs in 20 overs thanks to Sachin Tendulkar (69 runs, 10 fours, 1 six). MS Dhoni sped up the process by batting third and getting 72 runs off of 53 balls (7 fours and 3 sixes). This made things go faster. India’s big score of 414/7 in 50 overs was mostly due to the work of Virat Kohli (27 runs off 19 balls) and Jadeja (30 runs off 17 balls).

Virender Sehwag was called India’s hero after he hit 17 fours and 6 sixes and scored 146 runs off 102 balls. India won the game because of what he did. Before he was out, he and Tendulkar had scored 153 runs together and he and MS Dhoni had scored 156 runs together. In the end, he was fired. Sri Lankan bowlers Fernando, Kulasekara, and Welegedara each took two wickets and gave up a total of 60 runs. Jayasuriya, who bowled for seven overs, gave up 76 runs and two wickets.

No one thought Sri Lanka would win, but they did, so Sangakkara must have told his batting line-up to play at their most destructive level. Sri Lanka got to 188 runs in 24 overs thanks to the work of Tharanga (67) and Dilshan, who was on a killing spree. Tharanga was then taken out of the game. After that, Kumar Sangakkara and Dilshan brought down the house by going crazy on the Indian bowlers and making a mess of things. Both teams’ batsmen were doing their best to get runs.

Sangakkara got 90 runs by hitting 10 fours, 5 sixes, and 5 boundaries off of only 43 balls. Dilshan hit 124 balls for 20 fours, 3 sixes, and a total of 160 runs, which was his best score ever. They scored a total of 128 runs throughout 13 overs. But Jayasuriya’s five wickets and Jayawardene’s wicket were enough for the Indian spinners to get their team back in the game (3).

Kandamby (24) and Mathews (38), who took advantage of India’s lack of momentum, scored 56 runs quickly. So, in the last over of the match, Sri Lanka only needed 11 runs to win. The neat over that Nehra threw helped Sri Lanka get their score to 411/8, which was only three runs short of their goal.

  • Taunton, 1999 World Cup; India vs Sri Lanka –

Sri Lanka did not do very well in the World Cup in 1999, even though they had won it the year before. Even though the Kargil War made things hard, this match against Pakistan was India’s only highlight of the competition, even though India did poorly in the rest of the games.

At Taunton, Sri Lanka let India bat first. In the first over, Vaas got rid of Ramesh for just 5 runs by bowling him. This made it harder for India to score. During those 45 overs, they only lost one wicket.

  • At R. Premadasa Stadium In 1998, India And Sri Lanka Played Each Other –

As part of the celebrations for Sri Lanka’s 50th anniversary of independence in 1998, the two countries competed against each other in the finals of the Singer Akai Nidahas Trophy, which was a competition between three countries.

When India won the toss and chose to bat on the Premadasa pitch, it looked like a normal place to bat. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, the new opening pair for India, wanted to make history by making the Sri Lankan bowling attack a mess. In 1996, Sachin (128 runs, 8 fours, and 2 sixes) and Sourav (109 runs, 6 fours, and 2 sixes) hit a record 252 runs for the first wicket.

  • India And Sri Lanka Played In The World Cup Final In 2011 Held In Mumbai –

They saved the best match, which also has the most at stake, for last. In 2011, when India and Sri Lanka played in Mumbai, it was for the World Cup final.

Kumar Sangakkara, who had won the toss, chose to bat first, even though the surface in Mumbai looked it could break easily. Harbhajan got rid of both Tharanga and Dilshan, who were batting, when they had scores of 6 and 33, respectively.

With the help of Kulasekara (32) and Perera, Sri Lanka was able to score more than 270 runs in the last few overs (22 in 9 balls). Given the conditions (a dusty pitch in Mumbai and the high pressure of the World Cup final). With the sensible batting from Gautam Gambhir and hitting by MS Dhoni, India won this nail biting final.
